Chapter 4, featuring Helga von Skullbasher. I like her. A few of you may also remember one of these characters from the last version. I restarted this chapter a few times before finally getting it right. Just one of those things, I guess. At first it was told from Brigg's perspective, but that didn't seem quite right. Then I changed it to Midna and started having writer's block. But it eventually disappeared, and the fight scene finally came together, and... well, here ya go.

My personality type: the dreamy idealist

Dreamy Idealist (DI)

(Just visiting? Take the free test and determine your personality type!)

Dreamy IdealistDreamy Idealists are very cautious and therefore often appear shy and reserved to others. They share their rich emotional life and their passionate convictions with very few people. But one would be very much mistaken to judge them to be cool and reserved. They have a pronounced inner system of values and clear, honourable principles for which they are willing to sacrifice a great deal. Joan of Arc or Sir Galahad would have been good examples of this personality type. Dreamy Idealists are always at great pains to improve the world. They can be very considerate towards others and do a lot to support them and stand up for them. They are interested in their fellow beings, attentive and generous towards them. Once their enthusiasm for an issue or person is aroused, they can become tireless fighters.

For Dreamy Idealists, practical things are not really so important. They only busy themselves with mundane everyday demands when absolutely necessary. They tend to live according to the motto “the genius controls the chaos” - which is normally the case so that they often have a very successful academic career. They are less interested in details; they prefer to look at something as a whole. This means that they still have a good overview even when things start to become hectic. However, as a result, it can occasionally happen that Dreamy Idealists overlook something important. As they are very peace-loving, they tend not to openly show their dissatisfaction or annoyance but to bottle it up. Assertiveness is not one of their strong points; they hate conflicts and competition. Dreamy Idealists prefer to motivate others with their amicable and enthusiastic nature. Whoever has them as superior will never have to complain about not being given enough praise.

As at work, Dreamy Idealists are helpful and loyal friends and partners, persons of integrity. Obligations are absolutely sacred to them. The feelings of others are important to them and they love making other people happy. They are satisfied with just a small circle of friends; their need for social contact is not very marked as they also need a lot of time to themselves. Superfluous small talk is not their thing. If one wishes to be friends with them or have a relationship with them, one would have to share their world of thought and be willing to participate in profound discussions. If you manage that you will be rewarded with an exceptionally intensive, rich partnership. Due to their high demands on themselves and others, this personality type tends however to sometimes overload the relationship with romantic and idealistic ideas to such an extent that the partner feels overtaxed or inferior. Dreamy Idealists do not fall in love head over heels but when they do fall in love they want this to be a great, eternal love.

So, tomorrow my wonderful girlfriend Uronoro will be flying up  here, and then on Saturday we all go down with my family to Orlando. I'm going to Disneyworld, whoo! We'll be down in Orlando for a week, and then I'll be flying back to Houston with Uro for another week. I'm looking forward to it.

So, here's Chapter 3. Yeah... Still kinda unsure about this. Not totally convinced that I like it, but I guess it's okay. Your opinions are welcomed.

Flowers For Dorian

So my friend Marc called me up today and told me about this band called Flowers For Dorian that came into the mall where he works advertising for a show tonight. And that was cool, so we decided to go. It was at this place that we'd never heard of, but it's this cool little underground bar like five minutes away from my house. Bands play there all the time, apparently, but I had no idea it existed. I'll definitely be going back.

Anyway, the show was freaking crazy. There were two other bands aside from FFD, but they took the cake by far. They pretty much made the whole show. Their music had so much energy (not to mention their drummer was ADD or insane or both... in a good way). We talked to them too, and they're really awesome guys. It was a great time, all around.

I encourage you to check out their music.

Do it, do it now. I mean, their CD's pretty good, but you'd have to be there to witness their insane energy. It doesn't come across in the recordings.

I think my ears have stopped ringing... Anyway, that was my insane night. I wish I'd had a video camera to tape it with... or that I could rewind those minutes of my life and watch it all over again. One of the best times I've ever had. And I just sat there and watched.

So, I wasn't planning on posting another chapter this soon, but due to popular demand (or...just demand), another has been requested. So here's the second chapter, introducing  the other main characters and their fateful first meeting with Mr. Mortensen.

So, here's the first official chapter of Middle Ground, introducing its protagonist and my very favorite character. This week's writer's group attendees were all girls aside from myself, and they all said they wanted to claim him for themselves... so at least I know he's likable. Somehow he's more of a ladies man than me... Meh. Anyway, it's kinda long (as most of my chapters are) so, sorry.

Brief Updates

  • May. 26th, 2008 at 12:47 AM
ケ
I went to Detroit for a family cookout today. I was expecting the worst, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I can tolerate them more now, perhaps since they stopped thinking that I'm weird. And by now I'm used to the pampering from my aunts. At least I know they like my hair.

I've been attending a weekly writer's group with some of my friends, and we meet to discuss and edit each others' stories, and also do writing exercises to help better our skills. This Saturday's meeting was very productive, and I got some good input on the first chapter of Middle Ground. I did some revisions, and I'm feeling good about it so I'm going to post it here. It'll be in a separate post.

Hm... Well, that's all. Like the title says, brief update. じゃ。

So, sorry for the brief lapse. I return to post the prelude to the most precious figment of my imagination, my first original story Middle Ground. You get a glimpse of "Helga von Skullbasher", as my girlfriend has nicknamed her. She's not very nice.

Oh, and let me know if my layout's troublesome to read. I'll change it up.

The Kay Lives

I ROCK.

Just getting that out of the way. I'm in a good mood.

Man, I haven't posted here in forever. But I've been itching for a blog lately for some inexplicable reason, so back to the old LJ. I've got like, what, 5 posts? Ha. Anyway, updates. All is well in the world of the Kay. I'm enrolled at Eastern Michigan University (with all my GE out of the way, whoo!) majoring in Creative Writing, minoring in Japanese. School's out for the summer though. I love summer. Still jobless.... I'm working on that. Hopefully I'll be able to find one this summer. Not much else going on though. I'm boring.

Still working on both of my novels, but they cycle of rewritage has not really stopped... I haven't posted the latest versions online anywhere, so I may just do that here. Actually I probably will. Post  a chapter or so of my story whenever I feel like it. So yeah. Look forward to it.

That's all I have to say. Deal with it. Or something. Yeah, I'm weird. I'll just stop now. じゃな。

My friend just showed me this radically awesome survey...It wins.

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?

So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
NO CHEATING

Opening Credits: "Warmness On The Soul" - Avenged Sevenfold
(A nice soft, piano melody. Pretty nice for opening credits.)

Waking Up: "Cabron" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
(Awesome Mexican beat. XD Guess I wake up perky.)

First Day At School: "Dumb" - Nirvana
(XD I must be doing really bad.)

Falling In Love: "Hundred" - The Fray
(Another piano song, very nice and very appropriate.)

Fight Song: "Guitarras De Amor" - P.O.D.
(Mexican guitar intermission. XD Perfect for a showdown tussle.)

Breaking Up: "Hanataro Desu" - Bleach Beat Collection
(A very...happy song. I guess I really didn't like her all that much? o.0

P.S. - Kelly, that's not you.)

Prom: "The Pros and Cons of Breathing" - Fall Out Boy
(Very...emo sounding. Guess I'm still brooding.)

Life's OK: "Natural Life" - Breaking Benjamin
(Grungy rock music. Very nice.)

Mental Breakdown: "Sign" - Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Original Soundtrack
(Creepy piano theme, with some slow choir chanting later on...Again, fitting.)

Driving: "Teenager In Love" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
(This is such a happy sounding song, it makes for a hilarious mental driving image. XD)

Flashback: "Savior" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
(A kind of somber song...It works, though, especially if it's a relationship flashback.)

Getting Back Together: "Go" - blink-182
(Guess it was an eager reunion...must've missed her more than I thought. :P)

Wedding: "Disco" - Crossfade
(Wow. o.0 A very, very, wild wedding...Not sure I want to know.)

Amazing Hot Sex Porno Scene: "Tangled" - Maroon 5
(Again...eerily appropriate. Soft yet upbeat. Even the title...*ahem* But let's not dwell on that.)

Birth of Child: "Masterpiece Conspiracy" - P.O.D.
(My child is really rocking. XD Came out headbanging, I guess.)

Death Scene: "Little Busters" - The Pillows
(This is eerily happy...Wasn't missed much? XD Yeesh.)

Funeral Song: "Doggy Dog" - The Seatbelts
(This is just...very strange. XD This is one of the oddball songs.)

End Credits: "Waltz for Zizi" - The Seatbelts
(A very slow guitar, nice for ending credits...though not sure it's entirely fitting, considering the previous music. The movie must have been rather crazy. XD)

[Extras]

Trailer music: "Kiss And Control" - A.F.I.
(A rather angsty, somber trailer. :P)

"Director's Cut" Deleted Scene Music: "Obvious" - blink-182
(This song sounds like good music for a pointless skateboarding montage. XD Guess it didn't fit into the movie.)

Product Placement $ong: "Chop Suey" - System of a Down
(Another oddball. XD)

That was oddly entertaining.

Triumphant Return

I haven't posted here in forever...I haven't even done a real entry. So I guess this is the first official one...

I haven't bothered writing here because I usually never keep up blogs like this for very long. But maybe I'll give it another shot.

In today's news...I may finally have a job again! Rejoice! After weeks of pestering Borders every few days they finally have an opening, and I have an interview with them on Monday. Wish me luck! I'm really wanting this job. A job in general would be good, but a job at Borders would be freaking sweet. And they'd want me to close, so I don't have to get up early. Even better!

So...it's like, almost 8 am. I really don't have much else to say. Yay for official late first entries. Peace out, to the two people who read this thing. I shall try to remember to update this thing.

A prose piece I wrote based on Kingdom Hearts 2.

The sound of the large black zipper filled every corner of the room, drowning out the unbearable silence that had once reigned supreme. It liberated him, in a way; if he had to endure anymore of this he was going to go insane. He pulled the zipper up slowly, gradually, until it reached his neck and stopped. His ensemble was now complete. He looked himself over; the midnight black leather boots, pants, and leather gloves, with the long hooded coat worn over everything. The clothes seemed to be created from the shadows themselves. But unless the Heartless could sew, he doubted that they actually were.

The last outfit I’ll ever wear, he thought. Sounded like a cheesy quote from somewhere. But it very well may have been. He looked around at his surroundings; the barren, expansive room composed all of white, walls bare. The door lay behind him, he knew. This was for real. He was really here. Wherever here was.

His old life was gone. Assuming that he’d had an old life. He didn’t even remember it. He knew that there had been something before he’d woken up in that strange town alone, other memories maybe. But they were lost to him. He didn’t know anything about himself, not even his name. He knew he’d had a name. Before…He was positive. But he didn’t remember. The fact should have troubled him, but it didn’t. And that in itself was troubling.

His deep blue eyes drifted to the floor as he recalled what that man had told him. He was…a Nobody. Literally or figuratively?, he had thought. Probably both. His hand reached up to lightly rest on his chest over his heart. Or at least, where his heart should have been. Apparently he didn’t have one. He had lost it, somewhere back during the time he didn’t remember. And now…he was hollow. He couldn’t feel happiness, sadness, or any other sort of emotion. Not truly. Oh, he still knew what they were. He knew when he should be feeling happy, when he should be feeling sad. But he…couldn’t. That, too, should have disturbed him, but it didn’t. That’s probably what happens when you wake up with no memories and no inner self.

But now he was ready. He’d dressed himself in the outfit that had been provided to him. And now he wanted the answers that had been promised to him. His eyes wandered to his hands as he lifted them in front of his face, the gloves obscuring his pale skin. With this outfit on, no part of him could be seen, save for his face. And even that changed, as he ran his hair through spiky blonde hair, reaching back to pull on the hood at the back of his coat and tug it over his head. His face was drenched in shadow. Now he looked like a nobody too. A faceless specter with no real identity. As he thought about it he searched within himself for any hint of emotion, of what he felt about his transformation. Was being a nobody saddening? Frustrating? Invigorating? He didn’t know the answers…All he felt was emptiness.

His eyes a blue void like some vast ocean, he looked around for a few more moments before sighing quietly, cutting through the looming silence like a knife through his heart…butter. A knife through butter. Yeah. Besides, his heart was gone. He shook his head to clear his mind of these depressing thoughts. Now was not the time to be dwelling on this. His face wiped blank beneath his hood, he turned his eyes to a corner of the room, beginning to call upon the power that the dark man had helped him to discover. The power of darkness. Summoning the shadows to his will, they materialized out of thin air, beckoned to the corner where his gaze lay, and swirled and contorted to form a swirling dark portal just his size; an entrance to the abyss beyond. Without hesitation he stepped forward through the ethereal doorway. What was there to fear of the darkness?

His travel through the realm of shadows was brief, barely a few seconds, and then he had reached his destination. He emerged from the other side of the portal into a completely different place. A completely different world. Sand crunched beneath his boots, mingling with the soft sounds of lapping waves on a shore. A beach stretched out before him, darkened under cover of night, rocky outcrops springing from the sand. To his left lay an immense ocean, structures of stone jutting from the water as well and forming a sort of arch near the shoreline. In the horizon over the ocean sat a bright pinpoint of light, not quite a sun but too bright to be a star. In a way the scenery was beautiful, swathed in darkness yet still somehow mesmerizing.

Before him on a blackened rock sat a silent figure: The man who had found him. He stepped towards the seated man in silence, knowing that he was aware of his presence. And indeed, the man turned to look at him, also made faceless by the overshadowing hood he wore. “You have arrived,” he said in a deep, soothing voice. The man’s voice bore hints of charisma, of strength, of knowledge. It was why he had followed the man; it was why he had trusted him. He was the one with the answers. “I’ve been to see him. He looks a lot like you.” Under his hood his blue eyes blinked, the only reaction he visibly displayed. Him? A thousand questions raced through his mind at once; all of the mysteries and vague shadows of his past that he wished to know about. It took him a moment to sort them all out, but at last he finally decided upon his first, a question that he had been dying to ask since his awakening, however long ago it had been. The only question he had that had nothing to do with himself.

“Who are you?”

So...
